SOME ARGUMENTS JEWISH PEOPLE HAVE
Dear Jewish Person, perhaps you have come across several books with information in them, geared to teach you how to refute the witness of Christian missionaries. We have read some of these books, and we are sorry that the message of Messiah has been so misunderstood.
Those Jews who have not, as yet, come to believe in the promised One of God, have various arguments for not accepting Him. The most outstanding argument they have is found in the information they receive from the Bible which they have misinterpreted to support their views.
In one of the books I read on this subject, the author stated that some of his Jewish people accepted Jesus as Messiah because they did not know their own Bible and Judaism well enough, and so were easily manipulated by Christian missionaries. But I find that it is really those Jews who know their Judaism and the Bible, who are the ones to realize that Jesus fulfilled all of God's promises for the coming Messiah!
The writer of this book also said that there were many defects in the Christian's point of view and that Jews should be made aware of them. He then proceeded to list the arguments, and how the Jewish people could refute them.
I know that Jewish people have a fear of being "brain-washed." They do not want to believe a lie, neither do they want to be "tricked" into something they feel is blasphemy. They do not want to be a traitor to God or to their people. I understand how they feel because I had this same attitude before I came to the truth which was revealed to me by God Himself.
No one talked me into it. No one tricked me. No one hypnotized me to believe in Jesus. It was God alone who convinced me and there is not one doubt in my mind about it. It was in the year 1938 that I first believed in my Messiah Jesus and it is still a reality in my heart!
Let us consider the statement that Jews who don't know their Bible or their Jewish religion are the ones who are persuaded by Christian missionaries to believe in Jesus. We want to point to an example of the opposite view, the great Jewish Apostle Paul (Saul) who became a believer in Jesus as his Messiah.
Certainly he knew the Hebrew Scriptures well, and he also knew the Mishnah. He was very well-learned, and had a brilliant mind. He was taught by Gamaliel, the greatest Jewish teacher of his day, and some say of him that he was the greatest teacher of all time! Paul had opposed Jesus and the Christians at first. He persecuted his own kinsmen for becoming Christians because he thought he was right. He actually believed that they were blaspheming God.
But something happened to Paul to change all that. One day he was on the road to Damascus with papers in his hand that condemned to death those Jews who had accepted the Christian way. He was not convinced by man's testimony. No one gave an argument to talk him into it. It was God Himself who spoke to him from Heaven and revealed Himself as Messiah Jesus. Paul was convinced by God and his life was changed.
Another false statement in the books I have read against Christianity states that it was the Christians who initiated the Crusades, during which thousands of Jews were killed in the name of Jesus! It is unfortunate that many Jews do not know the difference between those who claim to be Christians and those who really are followers of the lowly Nazarene.
Though many of my people have been persecuted and put to death by so-called Christians, it is not the true believer who has been responsible in this area. Both Jewish and Gentile believers in Jesus are taught to love everyone, and especially God's ancient people, Israel, the Jews of today. True Christians gave their lives to shelter Jews during the Crusades, the Inquisition, and during the Holocaust. Of course, most of my Jewish brethren do not hear this side of the story!
Those Jews who don't know Messiah believe that the Jews of His day rejected Him, and wonder why the Jews of today should accept Him? However, the opposite is true. The very first believers in Jesus as the prophesied Messiah, were Jews! The first Christian Church in the New Testament was composed of Jews who had accepted Jesus as their promised Redeemer.
Christianity began with the Jews - not the Gentiles! The first preachers of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ were Jewish men and women. They did not lose their Jewish identity - they actually became more Jewish because they believed God's Word about Messiah. True, the entire nation of Israel did not accept Him. It was prophesied that this would be the case. But thousands out of the nation DID accept Jesus as the One who fulfilled dozens of prophecies of Messiah in the Hebrew Scriptures. Before I believed in Yeshua-Jesus, I thought that all who were not Jews were Christians, and that all Christians hated the Jews. They called us "Christ-killers." This is another misconception held by our Jewish people. There are Gentiles who call themselves Christians who really are not! If they followed the lowly Yeshua, they would obey His teachings. He taught His followers to love everybody - to love even their enemies, and to pray for those who would seek to harm them. The true believer in Yeshua does not hate the Jew, but they love whomever God loves. They love the Jew because the Saviour-Messiah was a Jew. The greatest Jew who ever lived is the Lord Jesus Christ!
If Jewish persons who have had some of these objections to believing in Yeshua, now realize their mistake, won't you open up your heart to your own Messiah Jesus? Let Him heal your soul of unbelief. Cease to believe the opposite view of Him, and receive now the true biblical picture of Him as your Messiah and soon-coming King!
